Privacy Policy

At Explorer Insurance, we value you as a customer. We understand and take seriously your concerns about your personal information. We want you to know we do not:

  • Sell your personal information.
  • We only share personal information as necessary to provide insurance services you have requested, to contact you about Explorer products or as permitted by law.
  • We expect persons or organizations that provide services on our behalf to keep your information confidential. We also expect those persons or organizations to use your information only to provide the services we have asked them to perform.
  • We instruct our employees to protect your information. We have established safeguards (these are physical, electronic and procedural) to protect this information.

In providing our products to you, we collect information about you and may share this data for routine business and legal reasons.

Information we collect

  • The types of personally identifiable information we collect may include your name, address, email address, telephone number, social security number, credit card or other payment information. Most of the data we collect about you comes from you, your application and/or your agent or broker.
  • We get data from your transactions with us. For example, we get data from the insurance you purchase, your account balances and your payment history.
  • We also get data from outside sources such as consumer reporting agencies and/or insurance support organizations. Some examples are claim history reports, motor vehicle reports and/or credit reports.

Information we share

Explorer Insurance may disclose the following information on current or former policy holders:

  • We may share your personally identifiable information with insurance support organizations which may provide motor vehicle reports, credit reports or claims history to other insurance organizations.
  • We may share your personally identifiable information with insurance agents or brokers, reinsurance companies and claims administrators.
  • We may share your name, address and specific insurance data to nonaffiliated companies including auto repair shops, medical providers, or others providing services that may be covered by your applicable insurance policy.
  • We may share your personally identifiable information to insurance regulators and law enforcement authorities.
  • We may share your personally identifiable information with other non-affiliated companies to prevent fraud, to comply with a subpoena, or search warrant.
  • We may share information with group policy holders for the purpose of reporting claims experience or conducting an audit.
  • We may share information with a professional peer review organization for the purpose of reviewing the services or conduct of a medical-care institution or medical professional.
  • We may share information with the lienholder, assignee, lessor or other person shown on our records as having a beneficial or legal interest in the policy.
  • We may report your account activity to a credit bureau.
  • We may share information upon the written authorization of the insured. The authorization must include a date and signature.

Affiliated Companies

Explorer Insurance reserves the right to disclose nonpublic financial information to an affiliated company for marketing purposes without obtaining prior written authorization. The law does not restrict these disclosures.

Practices to protect confidentiality and security

We have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and help prevent unauthorized access, maintain data security, and correctly use the information we collect online. Only employees and service providers who need to see your information have access and then only to the extent necessary. Payments made online through online pay are protected using a 128 bit SSL encryption.

How to correct personally identifiable information

To change personally identifiable information you will need to send a written request to your individual agent or broker.

Corrections will be completed within 30 days of the request or a notice will be sent explaining why the correction will not be completed, the reasons for the refusal and a right to file a statement with us setting forth what you think it is correct and a concise statement of the reasons why the you disagree with our refusal.

How to request recorded personally identifiable information

You may send a written request to your agent or broker requesting access to recorded personal information which you reasonably describe and is reasonably locatable and retrievable by us. We may charge a reasonable fee to cover the costs in providing this record.

Cookies & Web Beacons

To enhance your experience with our sites, many of our web pages use "cookies." Cookies are text files we place in your computer's browser to store your preferences. Cookies, by themselves, do not tell us your e-mail address or other personally identifiable information unless you choose to provide this information to us by, for example, registering at one of our sites. However, once you choose to furnish the site with personally identifiable information, this information may be linked to the data stored in the cookie.

We use cookies to understand site usage and to improve the content and offerings on our sites. Collection of Information by Third-Party Sites

Some of our sites contain links to other sites whose information practices may be different than ours. Visitors should consult the other sites' privacy notices as we have no control over information that is submitted to, or collected by, these third parties.

Changes to Privacy Policy

This Notice will be provided when we first issue your policy and annually thereafter.

From time to time, we may update this privacy statement. We will notify you about material changes in the way we treat personally identifiable information by placing a notice on our site. We encourage you to periodically check back and review this policy so that you always will know what information we collect, how we use it, and to whom we disclose it.
